Plain-English summary
Handi-Craft Company of St. Louis, MO, is voluntarily recalling three models of toy telephones: the Thin Line Play Phone (Model 985), the Talking Touch Tinkle Phone (Model 3235), and the 911 Emergency Phone Center (Model 3675). These toys were sold in retail stores nationwide between June 1991 and April 1992. The recall involves approximately 91,465 units in total, comprising 51,000 Thin Line Play Phones, 36,865 Talking Touch Tinkle Phones, and 3,600 911 Emergency Phone Centers.
The recall was initiated after small components, including plastic posts, push buttons, hinge pins, and latches, separated from the toys during CPSC testing. These detached parts present a potential aspiration and choking hazard for young children. Neither the CPSC nor Handi-Craft is aware of any injuries involving these toys. The hazardous components were identified during a CPSC inspection of the firm.
Consumers are urged to take these recalled toys away from young children immediately. To obtain a remedy, consumers should return the toy to the place of purchase for a replacement with a Handi-Craft toy telephone of equal value. For more information, consumers may call Handi-Craft collect at (314) 773-2979 and ask for Norm Stewart.
