Plain-English summary
The RIDGID 18Volt Brushless 21-Degree Framing Nailer and the RIDGID 18Volt Brushless 30-Degree Framing Nailer are being recalled. The model and serial numbers are on the data plate on the side of the nail tray or magazine, or on the bottom of the nailer. About 64,000 units are affected in the United States, with about 6,575 more sold in Canada.
The stated hazard is that the dual action engagement system on the nailers can malfunction and involuntarily discharge a nail by pulling the trigger alone, posing a laceration hazard. According to the notice, the nailer should require both the work piece contact element and the trigger to be engaged at the same time in order to discharge a nail. No injuries or incidents have been reported.
The nailers were sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores nationwide and online from July 2021 through May 2025 for between $329 and $389.
Consumers should immediately stop using the nailers and visit powertools.ridgid.com/recall to check whether their tool is included and obtain a free repair. TTI Consumer Power Tools will send a prepaid label, update the software in the nailer and return it.
