Cordless Hedge Trimmers Recalled for Unexpected Blade Activation Laceration Risk

TI Outdoor Power Equipment Inc. is recalling about 113,000 RYOBI 40V 24-Inch Cordless Hedge Trimmers sold in the United States (and about 15,000 in Canada). The recalled models are RY40620VNM, RY40602VNM, and RY40602BTLVNM.

The recalled hedge trimmers have a defect in the control mechanism. The blade can unexpectedly activate when only the safety or trigger control is pressed individually, rather than requiring both controls to be engaged simultaneously. This poses a laceration hazard.

The company has received 27 reports of unexpected blade activation, including 16 reports of injuries resulting in minor and some severe lacerations. The trimmers were sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores nationwide and online from March 2021 through January 2025, for between $90 and $160.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled trimmers and visit https://www.ryobitools.com/recall to determine if their unit is affected. The trimmer can be returned to TTIOPE for a free replacement with a pre-paid shipping label. Proof of purchase is not required.
