The recall involves Ryobi Mulchinator Models BMM2400 and CMM1200 with ten-digit serial numbers ending in 9240 through 9352. These gray walk-behind mowers with black data plates were sold nationwide in home and garden centers and hardware stores from January 1993 through 1994 for $350 to $400 each.

The hazard exists because the mower's starter button may stick in the 'on' position, allowing the blade to move unexpectedly and cause injury. Ryobi has received nine reports of finger laceration injuries resulting from this defect.

Consumers who own these mowers, or those unsure if their unit is affected, should call (800) 345-8746 between 9am and 7pm EST, Monday through Friday, to arrange for free repair. Consumers are advised to remove the ignition key, circuit breaker, or extension cord when the mower is not in use and never place hands or feet under or near the mowing deck while the power source is connected.
