Lutron Power Interfaces for LED Tape Lights Recalled for Shock Hazard
Lutron-branded power interfaces for LED tape lights can fail during power surges like lightning strikes, creating a shock hazard. About 1,944 units are affected; no injuries have been reported.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: The hazard is a theoretical shock risk from power surge failure with no reported injuries or illnesses, making this a voluntary precautionary recall that meets the Moderate severity criterion.
Plain-English summary
Lutron Electronics Co. Inc. of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania is recalling about 1,944 Lutron-branded power interfaces (model LU-PH3-B), which are 96W hard-wired devices intended for use with LED tape lights. The power interfaces were distributed alone and as part of Lumaris RGB+ tunable white LED tape light starter kits for RadioRA 3 systems and HomeWorks systems. They were sold through dealers and distributors of audiovisual equipment and electrical supplies nationwide from September 2024 through April 2025 for approximately $300 for the power interfaces alone, and between $1,250 and $1,400 for the starter kits.
The power interface can fail during a significant power surge, such as a lightning strike, creating a shock hazard if consumers touch the connected LED tape lights. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power interfaces and any connected lighting, and turn off the power at the circuit breaker. Lutron will provide free replacement power interfaces and installation at no charge. Consumers can determine if their unit is included in the recall and register for a replacement at https://residential.lutron.com/us/en/safety/safety-recall.
