What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (strangulation hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Lutron Electronics Co. Inc. is recalling approximately 240 hobbled-style, motorized or manual, custom-made Roman shades in the United States. These shades were manufactured between December 17, 2009, and July 23, 2015. The products were sold by various residential window shading dealers, including 54 Electric, Bekins, and Burgin Drapery Workroom, for prices ranging from $675 to $8,000.
The recall is due to a strangulation hazard. A child can place their neck between the exposed vertical hobble tape (ribbon) and the fabric on the backside of the shade, or pull the tape out and wrap it around their neck. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Roman shades. They can identify the product by a white label on the shade tube at the top, which displays the Lutron Electronics Inc. name and manufacture date. Consumers should contact Lutron Electronics toll-free at 844-478-2033 or online at www.lutron.com to receive a full refund or a free replacement shade.
