Triangle Tube is recalling approximately 60,000 Prestige and Aerco Esteem gas boilers due to carbon monoxide release hazard. Two deaths and 25 CO leak incidents have been reported.

What this means for you

Highest-severity recall. Risk of serious injury or death is documented or strongly suspected. Stop using the product now and follow the agency's instructions.

Our severity reasoning: This recall receives a Critical score due to two confirmed deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning associated with the recalled boilers (2015, 2016). Per the severity rubric, the presence of reported deaths results in a score of 5 regardless of other factors. Additionally, 25 CO leak incidents have been reported.

Plain-English summary

Triangle Tube is recalling approximately 60,000 Prestige Solo, Prestige Excellence, and Aerco Esteem condensing gas boilers manufactured by Burnsen SA of Belgium between December 2011 and April 2019. The recalled boilers are wall-hung condensing units that were sold nationwide through wholesale distributors and installed by independent contractors, priced between $3,400 and $9,700.

The boilers can release carbon monoxide (CO) due to delayed ignitions or component damage, posing a risk of serious injury or death. Triangle Tube has received two reports of death due to CO poisoning: a 47-year-old woman died in 2015 associated with a Prestige Solo 175 boiler, and an 85-year-old man died in 2016 associated with a Prestige SOLO TriMax 175 boiler following a repair. The company has also received 25 reports of CO leaks from the recalled boilers.

Consumers with recalled boilers should immediately contact Triangle Tube to schedule a free boiler inspection and, if applicable, free installation of a new boiler ignition system. Consumers who continue using the recalled boilers while awaiting repair should have working carbon monoxide alarms on each level of their homes and outside sleeping areas. If they do not have a carbon monoxide alarm, Triangle Tube will ship one free of charge.
