The recall is due to a defect where if the crossbow is nearly but not fully cocked, it can discharge unexpectedly while consumers are cocking or uncocking it, creating an injury hazard. The company has received one report of the crossbow unexpectedly discharging, though no injuries have been reported to date.

The recalled models are: Ravin R500 (R050), Ravin R500 Sniper (R051), Ravin R500E (R052), Ravin R500E Sniper (R053), Ravin R500 XK7 (R054), Ravin R500 Sniper XK7 (R055), Ravin R500E XK7 (R056), and Ravin R500E Sniper XK7 (R057). The crossbows were sold in slate gray and camo colors at Ravin, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, Dick's Sporting Goods stores and other stores nationwide, as well as online at www.ravincrossbows.com, with prices ranging from $2,550 to $4,025.
