U.S. Boiler Company Recalls Gas-Fired Residential Boilers for Carbon Monoxide Hazard
About 2,500 U.S. Boiler, New Yorker Boiler, Advantage, FORCE, and Archer brand gas-fired boilers are recalled because the blocked vent switch can fail at altitudes above 5,400 feet, allowing carbon monoxide to accumulate in homes. No injuries have been reported.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a high-risk hazard (carbon monoxide poisoning) where injury has not yet been reported. Although no illnesses or deaths have occurred, the potential for serious harm from carbon monoxide exposure is significant, and the hazard is not merely theoretical but depends on specific installation conditions.
Plain-English summary
U.S. Boiler Company LLC is recalling approximately 2,500 gas-fired hot water residential boilers under the brands U.S. Boiler, New Yorker Boiler, Advantage, FORCE, and Archer. The recall includes specific ES2, Series 3, X-2, CG-E, CG-F, Advantage AG, FORCE, and Lancer models.
The blocked vent switch (BVS) in these boilers can fail to shut down the burners when the boilers are installed at altitudes above 5,400 feet and the vent system becomes blocked. When this occurs, the boiler can emit excessive amounts of carbon monoxide into the home, posing a carbon monoxide poisoning hazard to residents.
These boilers were sold nationwide by independent heating and plumbing contractors and wholesale distributors from February 2009 through November 2023 for between $2,000 and $4,000. No injuries or illnesses have been reported.
Consumers with the recalled boilers should contact U.S. Boiler immediately for a free repair that includes a free replacement main burner gas orifice and a free replacement blocked vent switch if needed. Consumers continuing to use the boilers while awaiting repair should have working carbon monoxide alarms outside of sleeping areas and on each floor of the home. Contact U.S. Boiler toll-free at 888-432-8887 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email [email protected], or visit usboiler.net, archerboiler.com, or newyorkerboiler.com for more information.
