Bulldog Biometric Firearm Safes Recalled Due to Lock Failure Risk
Bulldog Cases is recalling about 33,500 Magnum Biometric Pistol Vaults because the biometric lock can fail and be opened by unauthorized users, creating a serious injury hazard and risk of death when firearms are stored in the safe.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The hazard involves serious injury or death risk from an accessible firearm. Although no injuries have been reported, the source explicitly cites "serious injury hazard and risk of death." This meets the Severe criterion for significant injury/property-damage risk even without reported incidents, and the risk of death elevates this above High severity.
Plain-English summary
Bulldog Cases of Danville, Virginia, is recalling approximately 33,500 Magnum Biometric Firearm Safes. The recalled models are the Magnum Biometric Pistol Vault (BD4030B), Magnum Biometric Pistol Vault with Shelf (BD4040B), and Magnum Biometric Top Load Pistol Vault (BD4055B). These black steel safes are designed to store firearms and valuables.
The biometric lock on these safes can fail and be opened by unauthorized users. When firearms are stored in an unsafe that an unauthorized person can access, this poses a serious injury hazard and risk of death. The firm received four reports of the safe being opened by an unauthorized user, although no injuries have been reported to date.
The recalled safes were sold at Bass Pro Shops, Walmart, firearm stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com from July 2016 through January 2024 for between $194 and $216.
Consumers should immediately stop using the biometric feature, remove the batteries from the safe, and use only the key when storing firearms. Bulldog is offering a repair kit or free replacement safe for consumers with Magnum Biometric Pistol Vaults, or a free replacement safe for consumers with Magnum Biometric Top Load Pistol Vaults. Consumers can contact Bulldog toll-free at 888-799-8001 between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at [email protected], or online at https://bulldogcases.com/recall or https://bulldogcases.com.
