Vornado Recalls Travel Steam Irons for Fire, Burn, and Shock Hazards

Vornado Air LLC is recalling dual voltage Steamfast Home and Away Travel Steam Irons (models SF-717, SF-720, SF-727) and Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons (model 606335). The recalled units were sold at major retailers including Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Amazon.com, Vornado.com, Steamfast.com, and other online retailers between January 2009 and May 2018 (Steamfast) and between 2009 and 2013 (Brookstone) for between $13 and $30. Approximately 317,000 units were sold in the United States, plus about 5,000 in Canada.

The power cord can become damaged near the cord bushing, which can lead to overheating of the cord. This creates fire and burn hazards. Additionally, cord damage near the bushing can result in exposed copper wires, creating an electrical shock hazard.

Vornado has received 50 reports of incidents, including 38 reports of the iron's power cord smoking, sparking, burning, or other signs of overheating, and 12 reports of cord damage. No injuries have been reported.
