Vornado Recalls Electric Space Heaters Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

Vornado Air, LLC, is recalling approximately 79,000 VH110 Whole Room Vortex electric space heaters. The recalled units were sold in black and white from June 2013 through May 2014 for about $60. They were distributed nationwide through retailers including Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, Menards, Orchard Supply, and Target, as well as online at Vornado.com and Amazon.com. The heaters measure about 10.5 inches high, 9 inches deep, and 10.5 inches at the base, with the on/off switch and heat settings located on top. The Vornado logo appears on the front, and the model and serial numbers are on a silver decal on the bottom. Affected units have the numbers 1 and 3 as the fourth and fifth digits of the serial number.

The recall is due to a fire and burn hazard. The heaters can overheat, causing the units to melt, catch fire, and ignite nearby items. Vornado has received 29 reports of units overheating and melting, including seven reports of heaters catching fire. These incidents resulted in one report of smoke inhalation and one report of property damage caused by soot and smoke.
