What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The source describes a serious entrapment hazard with risk of death by asphyxiation, which is a risk-of-harm product. However, the source explicitly states no injuries have been reported, so the score cannot exceed 3 per the rubric criterion that theoretical hazards without reported harm are at most 3.
Plain-English summary
BeyondMedShop is recalling two models of Vaunn Medical Bed Assist Rail adult bed rails (model numbers M876N-AAWH-APVM and M876N-SABK-APVM) manufactured by Einstein Associates LLC of Stafford, Texas. Approximately 102,000 units are affected.
The recalled bed rails pose a serious entrapment hazard. When attached to an adult's bed, users can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress, creating a risk of death by asphyxiation. No injuries have been reported.
The bed rails were sold online through BeyondMedShop.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and eBay from December 2018 through December 2022, priced between $40 and $80. Model numbers are printed on the weight capacity label on the grip handle.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bed rails and contact BeyondMedShop for a free repair. BeyondMedShop expects the remedy to be available in May 2023. Consumers can call BeyondMedShop toll-free at 1-877-836-8838 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit http://www.beyondmedshop.com/pages/product-recall or the company website and click "Recall Information" at the top of the page.
