Mittal International Baby Blankets Recalled for Choking and Strangulation Hazard
TJX is recalling about 108,000 Mittal International baby blankets sold nationwide from September 2021 through July 2022 because loose threads can detach and pose choking, entrapment, and strangulation hazards to infants.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product involving choking, entrapment, and strangulation hazards to infants, which are serious potential injuries. The source text explicitly states no injuries have been reported in the United States, which per the rubric means the score does not exceed 3 despite the seriousness of the potential harm.
Plain-English summary
The TJX Companies Inc. is recalling Mittal International chenille weave baby blankets in multiple colors (cream, blush, taupe, mint, gray, lavender, ivory, ochre, pale blue, sage, and terracotta). The blankets measure approximately 32 inches by 40 inches and feature fringe around the edges, with a "Made in India" label and an elephant design on the hangtag.
The hazard is that threads in the woven blankets can come loose and detach, posing choking, entrapment, and strangulation hazards to infants. No injuries have been reported in the United States.
