Polaris 2022 RZR Pro R 4 Recreational Vehicles Fire Hazard
Polaris is recalling approximately 1,160 Model Year 2022 RZR Pro R 4 Premium and Ultimate recreational off-road vehicles due to a fire hazard from an incorrectly routed battery cable that can contact the prop shaft.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: The source explicitly states that no injuries or fires have been reported, and the hazard is theoretical (potential fire). Although the defect involves a fire hazard, the absence of any reported harm and the precautionary nature of the recall place this in the Moderate category per the rubric criterion for voluntary precautionary recalls.
Plain-English summary
Polaris Industries Inc. is recalling approximately 1,160 Model Year 2022 RZR Pro R 4 Premium and RZR Pro R 4 Ultimate recreational off-road vehicles. The recalled vehicles were sold in black, blue, and lime colors in a four-seat configuration and are identified by "POLARIS" on the front grille and "POLARIS" and "RZR" printed on the sides.
An incorrectly routed battery cable in these vehicles can contact the prop shaft during use, which can result in an electrical short and pose a fire hazard. The firm has received one report of a vehicle losing power after start-up. No injuries or fires have been reported.
The recalled vehicles were sold through Polaris dealers nationwide between May 2021 and April 2022 for between $39,000 and $45,000. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair. Polaris dealers will re-route the battery cable and, if needed, replace it at no cost. Polaris has notified consumers to stop riding the vehicles and is contacting registered owners directly. For more information, consumers can contact Polaris at 800-765-2747 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.polaris.com and click on "Off Road Safety Recalls" or go to www.polaris.com/en-us/off-road-recalls/ to check if their vehicle identification number is included in the recall.
