Aesop Bathroom Deodorizer Drops and Oil Burner Blends Recalled

Aesop USA is recalling Aesop Post-Poo Drops and four Aesop Oil Burner Blend products because their packaging does not meet child-resistant requirements and labels lack mandatory safety information, posing a poisoning risk.

What this means for you

Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Our severity reasoning: Although the products pose a theoretical risk of poisoning due to non-compliant packaging and labeling defects, the source explicitly reports only three minor skin irritations with no medical treatment, meaning no serious injuries have occurred. This falls under a low-risk labeling and packaging violation without reported significant harm.

Plain-English summary

Aesop USA Inc. of New York is recalling Aesop Post-Poo Drops (a 100 mL amber glass bottle bathroom deodorizer) and four oil burner blends: Anouk, Beatrice, Catherine, and Isabelle (25 mL amber glass bottles). The products contain low-viscosity hydrocarbons that are required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) to be packaged in child-resistant containers. The recalled products do not have child-resistant packaging, creating a risk of poisoning. Additionally, the product labels violate the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA) by omitting mandatory safety information.

Approximately 154,300 units were sold in the United States (with an additional 21,900 sold in Canada). The products were sold nationwide through Aesop, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and other retailers from January 2012 through April 2022, priced between $30 and $100. The Post-Poo Drops were also sold as part of four Home Kit versions: The Protector, The Seasoned Wayfarer, The Melodist, and The Familiar Horizon. The firm has received three reports of skin irritation or negative skin reaction involving the Oil Burner Blends, with no report of medical treatment.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and store them safely out of reach of young children. To receive a refund or for disposal information, consumers should visit http://aesop.com/us/r/recall-2022 and complete the refund request form, which requires uploading a photo of the batch number and UPC/barcode and confirming safe disposal. Refunds will be issued as Aesop digital gift cards in the amount of the original purchase price (or for Home Kits, equivalent to the Post-Poo Drops price only) that can be used at any Aesop store or online. Store returns are not accepted.
