Reckitt Recalls 3.74 Million Bottles of Airborne Gummies for Pressure Hazard
RB Health (Reckitt) is recalling approximately 3.74 million bottles of Airborne Gummies (63 and 75 count) because pressure buildup can cause the cap and seal to pop off with force upon first opening, posing an injury hazard.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (pressure-induced projectile hazard) where injury has been reported, including one requiring medical attention. Although no severe or hospitalization cases are documented, the confirmed reports of injury elevate this beyond theoretical risk.
Plain-English summary
RB Health (US) LLC, doing business as Reckitt, is recalling approximately 3.74 million bottles of Airborne Gummies in 63 and 75 count sizes. The affected products were sold in blueberry pomegranate, orange, and assorted fruit flavors.
When the bottles are opened for the first time, pressure buildup inside can cause the cap and underlying seal to pop off with force, creating a risk of injury. Reckitt has received 70 reports of the cap or seal popping off, including 18 reports of minor injuries and one report of an eye injury requiring medical attention.
The recalled bottles were distributed nationwide from May 2020 through February 2022 through retailers including Target, Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Sam's Club, BJ's Wholesale Club, Costco, Walmart, Amazon.com, and www.schiffvitamins.com, with prices ranging from $18 to $33.
Consumers with unopened bottles should not attempt to open the product and should contact Reckitt for a full refund and postage-paid return label. Bottles that have already been opened are not subject to the recall, as any pressure buildup will have been released and they no longer present an injury hazard.
