Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves significant injury reports, including 13 injuries such as eye injuries and cuts, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' under the Severe classification.

Plain-English summary

JAKKS Pacific Inc. is recalling approximately 516,000 units of Spa Factory™ Aromatherapy Fountain and Bath Benefits™ Kits. The recall involves specific purple caps on jars used to make Bath Bombs/Balls and Bath Fizzies. The affected models include item numbers 37836, 37908, 37837, 54892, and 54857.

The hazard exists because pressure from the buildup of carbon dioxide in the jars can cause the caps to blow off, creating explosion and projectile hazards. Additionally, the mixtures may contain citric acid, which can enter the eyes during an explosion and cause irritation. JAKKS and the CPSC have received 88 reports of exploding jars, including 13 injuries to children and adults, such as eye injuries, bruising, and cuts.

The products were sold at Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Target, and toy stores nationwide from August 2008 through January 2009 for approximately $13 to $50. Consumers should immediately take the toy's jars and caps away from children and contact JAKKS for free replacement jar caps with vent holes.
