JAKKS Pacific Recalls Spa Factory Kits Due to Explosion and Projectile Hazards

The recall involves purple caps on jars used to make Bath Bombs/Balls and Bath Fizzies. The specific models included are the Spa Factory™ Bath Benefits™ Kit (Item 37836), Spa Factory™ Deluxe Spa Fantasy Aromatherapy Fountain (Item 37908), Spa Factory™ Spa Fantasy Aromatherapy Fountain (Items 37837, 54892, and 54857).
The hazard arises because pressure from carbon dioxide buildup in the jars can cause the unvented lids to blow off, creating explosion and projectile hazards. Flying pieces can cause property damage, and the mixture of water with the bath products can create citric acid, which may enter consumers' eyes during an explosion, posing a risk of eye irritation. CPSC has received 100 reports of exploding jars, including 26 injuries to children, involving irritated eyes, irritated skin, and one eye injury from a projectile jar lid.
The products were sold at Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Target, and toy stores nationwide from August 2008 through January 2009 for approximately $13 to $50. Consumers should immediately take the toy's jars and caps away from children and contact JAKKS Pacific for free replacement jar caps with vent holes.
