What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (chemical burns) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Alliance Chemical of Taylor, Texas, is recalling approximately 960 units of Sodium Hydroxide Flakes, Pure Lye, Caustic Soda Drain Cleaner, and Sodium Hydroxide Flake (Caustic Soda Flake). The recall involves two specific product configurations: a 2-pound white plastic bottle with a continuous thread closure cap and a 5-pound clear bag with a white and black label.
The products are being recalled because the packaging fails to meet the child-resistant requirements of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) and the labels violate the Federal Hazardous Substance Act (FHSA) by omitting the word "poison" and other mandatory information. These defects pose a risk of chemical burns and irritation to the skin and eyes. The company has not reported any incidents or injuries associated with these products.
The recalled products were sold online at Alliancechemical.com, Amazon.com, and eBay.com from August 2020 through February 2021 for between $20 and $30. Consumers should immediately store the products in a safe location out of sight and reach of children. Alliance Chemical is contacting known purchasers directly to provide free replacement child-resistant packaging and labels.
