Advantus Recalls Fluorescent Computer Task Lamps Due to Burn Hazard

Advantus, Corp. is recalling LEDU Black Fluorescent Computer Task Lamps, Model L283MB. The recall involves approximately 384 units of the lamp, which measures approximately 3.5 inches in height, 1.5 inches in width, and 1.875 inches in depth. The model number is printed on the packaging, and the UPC code 072743000487 is found on the package. The electrical cord features the text "UL E157718 CSA LL101497 Type SPT-2" printed on the black coating.

The recall is due to a burn hazard. The tape used to contain wire components within the lamp's case housing can overheat and melt. Advantus has received one report of smoke emerging from the lamp's case housing. No injuries have been reported.

The lamps were sold through catalogs, independent office product dealers, and internet resellers by Staples and Essendant. They were also sold online at Walmart.com and Lowes.com from February 2020 through July 2020 for about $136. The lamps were manufactured in China.
