BioMed Balance Recalls Essential Oils for Non-Child-Resistant Packaging
BioMed Balance is recalling Wintergreen and Sweet Birch Essential Oils because the packaging is not child-resistant, posing a poisoning risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (poisoning from methyl salicylate) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
BioMed Balance is recalling approximately 60 units of Wintergreen and Sweet Birch Essential Oils. The products are sold in 30 mL glass bottles with black caps and are labeled with "BioMed Balance" and either "Organic WinterGreen" or "Organic Birch Tar." The recall is due to the packaging failing to meet child-resistant requirements under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA).
The products contain methyl salicylate, a substance that requires child-resistant packaging. Because the current packaging is not child-resistant, there is a risk of poisoning if young children swallow the contents. No injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.
The products were sold online at www.azurestandard.com from October 2019 through June 2020 for between $7 and $11. Consumers should immediately store the product in a safe location out of reach of children and contact BioMed Balance for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call 206-763-1086 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or email [email protected].
