Plain-English summary
Starbucks Corporation is recalling approximately 230,000 Bodum + Starbucks Recycled Coffee Presses sold in the United States and about 33,200 units sold in Canada. The recall involves 8-cup French coffee presses partially made from recycled materials, featuring a cylindrical glass beaker, screen, and plunger held in place by a dark gray plastic frame. The specific product has SKU number 011063549 printed on a white label on the bottom of the base.
The recall is being issued because the plunger knob on the coffee press can break, exposing the metal rod. This defect poses a laceration hazard to consumers. Starbucks has received eight reports of the plunger knob breaking in the U.S. and one report in Canada, all resulting in lacerations or puncture injuries.
These coffee presses were sold at Starbucks stores nationwide and online at Starbucks.com from November 2016 through January 2019 for about $20. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled coffee presses and contact Starbucks for instructions on how to return the product to receive a full refund in the form of store credit. Returns will not be accepted in stores. Consumers can contact Starbucks toll-free at 888-843-0245 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at www.starbucks.com.
