Plain-English summary
The Uttermost Company is recalling approximately 17,000 units of mirrors, art, and wall decor sold with specific adjustable j-hook hanging hardware. The recall was initiated because the hardware can break, allowing the decor to fall from walls and pose an injury hazard to bystanders. The recalled hardware is identified by item numbers 1703, 1704, 1705, or 1706 printed on the back bottom portion of the j-hook and on the hardware's box. The hooks measure approximately 3.5 inches long and 0.75 inches wide.
Uttermost has received 13 reports of the hanging hardware breaking and causing mirrors and wall décor to fall. One of these incidents resulted in an injury, where a falling mirror caused a laceration to a consumer's leg. The products were sold at various retailers, including Gallery Furniture, Mathis Brothers, Matter Brothers Furniture, RC Willey, and Star Furniture, as well as online at 5thAvenueDesigns.com, Bellacor.com, Build.com, LampsPlus.com, and Wayfair.com. Sales occurred from June 2017 through March 2018 for prices between $50 and $200.
Consumers should immediately take the recalled decor off the wall and inspect the hanging hardware for the recalled metal adjustable j-hooks. If the decor has the recalled hardware, consumers should not re-hang it. They should contact Uttermost to receive free replacement adjustable j-hooks with free shipping.
