Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (puncture wounds and abrasions), but no deaths or serious injuries are documented, fitting the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Restoration Hardware (RH) is recalling approximately 9,400 units of its Smythson Shagreen Collection furniture, including side tables, coffee tables, dressers, beds, nightstands, and sideboards. These items are covered in shagreen-embossed leather with metal trim on all edges and were sold in four different finish and color combinations. The recall also includes about 300 units sold in Canada.
The recall is being issued because the metal trim on the furniture can detach from the edges, creating sharp points that pose injury and laceration hazards. RH has received 29 reports of the metal trim detaching, which resulted in three puncture wounds and one abrasion.
The affected furniture was sold at RH outlet stores nationwide and online at www.RH.com and www.RHmodern.com from December 2015 through June 2017 for between $750 and $6,800. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled furniture and contact RH for a full refund or a free replacement product of similar value, which includes free pickup of the recalled item.
