Lorex Technology Inc. is recalling approximately 26,000 Care 'N' Share video baby monitors in the United States and 8,000 units in Canada. The affected models are WL3520, WL4320, and WL3401. These monitors were sold in bundles with cameras between May 2013 and April 2016 at retailers including Babies "R" Us, Best Buy, Target, The Home Depot, Walmart, and online at Amazon and Lorex Technology's website. The monitors feature a white plastic back and a blue lithium polymer battery.
The recall is due to a hazard where the batteries can overheat, swell, and expand. This expansion can cause the battery cover to open or come off, exposing hot batteries to consumers and creating a burn hazard. The company has received 488 reports of batteries overheating and expanding, with about 140 reports involving the swelling of the battery pack causing the plastic casing to open. No injuries have been reported.
