What this means for you
Our assessment, not the agency’s: severity 3/5 (High).
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fireworks) with fire and burn hazards, but the source explicitly states that no injuries have been reported, which caps the severity at High per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Winco Fireworks International is recalling approximately 14,000 units of Black Cat Glitter Cone Fountain Fireworks. The recall involves cone-shaped devices sold in packages of three with model number BC269 printed on the bottom of the packaging. The cones are approximately 6 inches tall and feature the Black Cat logo, with "Crackling Glitter," "Colorful Glitter," or "Gold Glitter" printed on the front.
The devices are being recalled because, when ignited, they can burst and spread sparks and pyrotechnic materials outward instead of upward as intended. This malfunction poses fire and burn hazards to bystanders. The firm has received three reports of the devices spraying outward, but no injuries have been reported.
The fireworks were sold at fireworks retailers nationwide from March 2016 through June 2016 for about $9. Consumers should immediately return the recalled fountains to the retailer where purchased for a refund or exchange. For more information, consumers can contact Winco Fireworks toll-free at (888) 697-2217 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit www.blackcatfireworks.com.
