SRAM LLC is recalling approximately 6,400 Zipp stainless steel and titanium bicycle quick releases. These components were sold as aftermarket parts or included in specific Zipp wheel sets, such as the 202 DB V2, 303 DB V2, and 404 Firestrike V2 models. The quick releases feature a curved black lever with the Zipp logo; only units without a marking at the center of the underside of the lever are included in this recall.

The recall was issued because the quick releases can fail to engage in the closed position, which poses crash and injury hazards to the rider. The company has received three incident reports regarding the failure of the quick releases, but no injuries have been reported.

The affected quick releases were sold at specialty bicycle stores nationwide from March 2015 through December 2015. Prices ranged from about $47 for stainless steel models to about $84 for titanium models. Wheel sets equipped with these quick releases were sold for between $1,000 and $3,600.
