Britax Recalls B-Ready Strollers Due to Choking Hazard from Foam Padding

Britax is recalling B-Ready strollers and replacement top seats because foam padding on the arm bar can break off, posing a choking hazard to children.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a choking hazard with five reported incidents of children choking or gagging, which fits the rubric for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported as severe or fatal.

Plain-English summary

Britax Child Safety Inc. is recalling approximately 49,000 Britax B-Ready strollers and replacement top seats sold in the United States. The recall also covers 11,000 units sold in Canada. The affected strollers have a silver or black frame with a solid-colored top seat, and the replacement top seats fit into the stroller's frame. The products were sold at retailers including Babies R Us, buybuy Baby, Target, and online at Amazon.com and Diapers.com from April 2010 through January 2016.

The recall is due to a choking hazard. The foam padding on the stroller's arm bar can come off in fragments if a child bites the arm bar. Britax has received 117 reports of children biting the arm bar foam padding, including five reports of children choking or gagging on foam fragments.

Consumers should immediately remove the arm bar from the recalled strollers and replacement top seats. They should contact Britax for a free black, zippered arm bar cover and a warning label to apply to the products. Consumers can continue to use their strollers without the arm bar attached.
