Plain-English summary
Reliance Worldwide Corp. is recalling approximately 26,000 Cash Acme Heatguard Temperature Actuated Flow Reducing (TAFR) devices. These metal, cylindrical thermostatic devices are installed on lavatory faucets and showers to reduce water flow if the temperature reaches 120°F (49°C). The recall includes three specific models: Shower Safe Assembly SD-LF #24718, Tap Safe Assembly TD-LF #24719, and Shower Safe Assembly SD-01 #24110-0000.
The recall was issued because the thermal element in the TAFR device can fail to operate. If this occurs, users may come into contact with water that is hotter than expected, posing a risk of scalding injury. The devices were sold from December 2014 through May 2015 at plumbing retailers and wholesalers, including Antiscald, Inc., Best Plumbing Specialties, and Grainger, for approximately $30 each. They may be found in private and public housing, child care centers, hospitals, hotels, and motels.
No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. Consumers should use caution when turning on faucets and showers with the recalled device installed. To receive a free replacement, consumers should contact Reliance Worldwide toll-free at (844) 441-1496 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.cashacme.com and click "Recall Info". A replacement device with installation instructions and a pre-paid return envelope will be mailed to the consumer.
