These stainless steel accessories are sold in pairs and mount directly into bicycle crank arms to extend the outward reach of the pedals. The extenders fit a 9/16 inch pedal thread and are labeled with an "L" and an "R".

The recall is being issued because the pedal axle extenders can break. When this happens, the rider can lose control of the bicycle, posing a fall hazard. There have been 10 reports of the pedal extenders breaking, including two reports of minor injuries involving scrapes and bruises.

The affected products were sold at authorized Specialized retailers and online at www.specialized.com from January 2009 to June 2015 for about $40. An additional 380 units were sold in Canada. Consumers should stop using the recalled pedal extenders immediately and return them to an authorized Specialized retailer for a full refund.
