Specialized Electric Mountain Bike Battery Packs Recalled for Fire and Burn Hazards

The recalled bikes include 2016–2018 model year Turbo Levo FSR, 2018–2021 model year Turbo Levo HT, and 2018–2019 model year Turbo Kenevo FSR models, as well as individual Specialized M1 battery packs sold separately.

The battery packs have a defect in the seal around the LED control pad. Water can penetrate this seal and cause the lithium-ion battery to short circuit, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. No injuries have been reported.

The affected battery packs were distributed through authorized Specialized retailers and online from November 2017 through May 2021 as part of complete bikes priced between $3,400 and $10,000. Individual Specialized M1 battery packs were sold separately through authorized retailers and at www.specialized.com from November 2017 through March 2019 for about $900, including units distributed under warranty claims.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bikes and contact Specialized for a free repair. Do not charge the battery pack or expose it to wet conditions until an authorized Specialized retailer repairs it.
