Plain-English summary

Lea Industries is recalling approximately 500 lighted night stands in the United States and 20 in Canada. The recalled products are wooden night stands with two drawers, a power strip on the back, and a 20-watt halogen bulb on the underside. The recall includes three specific models: 244-421 Willow Run (toffee finish), 245-421 Willow Run (white finish), and 237-420 Americana (medium oak finish). These items measure approximately 22 inches wide, 16 inches deep, and 27 inches high, and feature touch buttons on the side panels to operate the lamp.

The recall is due to a burn hazard. The light fixture located under the night stand can overheat and scorch carpet. Lea Industries has received three reports of the lighting fixtures overheating and scorching carpets, but no injuries have been reported.

The night stands were sold at Furnitureland South and other major furniture stores nationwide, as well as online at Hayneedle.com and other retailers, from March 2013 through April 2014 for approximately $350. Consumers should immediately unplug the night stand light from the outlet and contact Lea Industries to arrange for a free repair and a $50 gift card. Only night stands with a light fixture are included in this recall.
