Plain-English summary
Halco Lighting Technologies LLC is recalling approximately 9,500 ProLED light bulbs due to a risk of injury and burn hazards. The affected bulbs are 14 or 18-watt models used in recessed lights, outdoor security lighting, and retail displays. They feature a metal cone-shaped housing, are silver in color, and have clusters of 6 to 16 LEDs. The "ProLED" brand name is printed on a label on the plastic housing along with specific model numbers and date codes.
The hazard exists because the LED bulbs can overheat and separate from the socket, falling onto consumers below. This poses both impact and burn hazards. Halco has received reports of five incidents where the bulbs separated from the socket, but no injuries have been reported. The bulbs were sold at lighting retailers and distributors nationwide from June 2009 through March 2014 for between $20 and $100.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled LED bulbs and remove them from the fixture. They should contact Halco at (844) 277-0177 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.halcolighting.com and click on LED Bulb Recall to obtain free replacement LED bulbs.
