Plain-English summary
Viking Range LLC is expanding a recall of approximately 31,000 built-in 36-inch wide refrigerators with bottom freezers. The recall involves specific Designer Series and Professional Series models manufactured between November 2005 and October 2012. These units were sold at appliance and specialty stores nationwide for between $5,100 and $7,700.
The recall is being issued because the refrigerator doors can detach, posing an injury hazard. Viking has received 39 new reports of falling doors, including 12 reports of injuries involving fractures, bruises, strains, and cuts, and 25 reports of minor property damage. These new reports are in addition to 57 reports from a previous recall, which included four reports of injuries involving bruises, broken toes/fingers, and strains.
Consumers should contact Viking immediately to schedule a free in-home repair. If the door does not appear to be sealed properly, is sagging, or fails to open or close normally, consumers should stop using the refrigerator. If the door is working properly, consumers can continue to use the unit until it has been repaired. Consumers can contact Viking toll-free at (877) 546-0136 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at www.vikingrange.com.
