Plain-English summary
Haier America Trading L.L.C. is recalling approximately 5,000 Haier 42-inch LED Televisions with model number LE42B1380. The recall is due to a defect in the TV stand's neck support, which can crack or break and cause the television to tip over, posing a risk of injury to consumers.
The affected televisions were sold at Fry's Electronics and other retail stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com and other online retailers, from September 2011 through March 2012 for about $450. The TVs were manufactured in China. Haier America and the CPSC have received 184 reports of the stand's neck cracking or breaking, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the TV and detach it from the stand, keeping both items in a safe location. They should contact Haier America to request a free replacement stand neck to be used with the original base. Consumers with wall-mounted TVs may continue to use them but should also request a free replacement stand neck in case the TV is used with the stand in the future.
