Bumbleride is recalling Indie and Indie Twin strollers because the front wheel can break, causing the stroller to tip and posing a fall hazard.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (stroller tipping) where minor injuries have been reported, fitting the High severity criteria for products where injury has not yet been reported as severe or fatal, but significant incidents exist.
Plain-English summary
Bumbleride Inc. is recalling approximately 28,000 Indie and Indie Twin strollers sold in the United States, with an additional 2,700 units sold in Canada. The recall covers specific model numbers manufactured between January 2009 and August 2011. The affected strollers were sold at Buy Buy Baby, other baby product stores nationwide, and online retailers between January 2009 and January 2012 for between $500 and $700.
The recall is due to a hazard where the front wheel can break at the axle hub, causing the stroller to tip over. This poses a fall hazard to the child riding in the stroller. There have been 36 incidents of the front wheel cracking, including two reports of the stroller tipping over resulting in minor injuries.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled strollers. To identify if their stroller is affected, check the model number and Date of Manufacture (DOM) on the white rectangular sticker affixed to the side of the seat frame (for Indie models) or the underside of the handle (for Indie Twin models). Consumers should contact Bumbleride to receive a free front wheel retrofit kit.
