The affected units include the Z445 Zero-Turn Mower with a 54-inch high capacity deck and Z445 or Z465 Zero-Turn Mowers with Premium Foot Lift features. These products were sold at John Deere dealers in the U.S. (excluding California) from January 2009 to September 2010.
The recall is due to a hazard where a bolt in the right-hand steering lever can catch on the tab of the foot lift stop and lock in place. This causes the steering lever to remain in the forward travel position, which poses an injury hazard to the driver. The company has reported no injuries associated with this defect.
Customers should stop using the mowers immediately and contact a John Deere dealer to have the lift stop bracket removed from their machine. All John Deere tractor dealers were notified of the recall, and registered owners will be directly contacted by the firm.
