Plain-English summary
Watts Regulator Co. is recalling approximately 900 one-inch 140X-9 Temperature and Pressure Relief Valves. These valves are typically used in large water heaters found in commercial buildings or large homes. The affected valves bear item codes 0259844, 0259924, 0259708, 0259925, and 0259930, and have date codes ranging from 0641R through 0930R. The date code is printed after the model number "M15" on a green metal tag attached to the valve.
The recall is being issued because the relief valve can fail to reduce pressure, which may lead to the failure or rupture of the water heater tank and associated valves. This malfunction poses a rupture and burn hazard to consumers. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
The valves were sold by authorized distributors nationwide from October 2006 through July 2009 for between $250 and $280. They were typically sold as replacement parts. Consumers should immediately contact Watts Regulator to schedule a free repair.
