Plain-English summary
ITT-Bell & Gossett Division is recalling approximately 1,500 Dual Unit Valves, model numbers 8, 8 TU, F-8, and F-8TU. The affected units have manufacturing date codes ranging from E30 (May 2003) through M40 (December 2004). These valves are used in residential heating systems to fill hot water boilers and related piping after installation or servicing.
The recall is due to a potential leak in the relief valve portion of the unit upon initial installation or system start-up. This leakage may expose installers to hot water, resulting in a burn injury. The recall applies strictly to products that have not been installed; units already installed are not affected because the potential leak would appear at the time of installation.
The valves were sold through HVAC wholesale outlets. Consumers should stop sales of affected valves and arrange for their return to the factory through an authorized Bell & Gossett representative. All affected units in distribution have been recovered. For assistance, consumers can call Bell & Gossett at (847) 470-3329 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, or visit www.bellgossett.com.
