Pottery Barn is recalling approximately 30,000 wooden hammock stands sold through its catalog and website from March 2003 through July 2008. The stands measure about 154 ½ inches long by 53 ½ inches in height by 53 inches in width and feature two black metal brackets on the base and arms. The recall includes all Pottery Barn two-pole wooden hammock stands sold during this period.
The recall is due to a hazard where the wood in the hammock stand can deteriorate over time when used outdoors, potentially breaking and causing falls or lacerations. Pottery Barn has received 12 reports of injuries requiring medical attention, including lacerations, neck and back pain, bruising, and one incident involving fractured ribs. Additionally, the company has received about 50 reports of the hammock stand breaking.
Consumers should immediately remove the two top side brackets of the hammock stand and dispose of the remaining portion.
