Lowe's is recalling Garden Treasures foldable steel hammock stands because welds can fail, causing the hammock to fall and injuring users.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in a consumer product that has resulted in reported injuries, including a head laceration requiring stitches, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury reports.

Plain-English summary

Lowe's is recalling approximately 1,000 Garden Treasures Foldable Steel Hammock Stands. The recalled items are black steel, foldable, and equipped with two wheels. The item number 226724 is printed on the box and the included instructions. The stands were manufactured by Shin Crest PTE, Ltd, of China, and imported by L G Sourcing Inc., of North Wilkesboro, N.C.

The recall was issued because the welds attaching the arms to the frame can fail, allowing the hammock to fall. This failure can result in users falling to the ground, striking the stand's base, or being struck by the arms. There have been three reports of the stands breaking at the welds, resulting in six reported injuries, including a head laceration requiring stitches, bruises, and neck and back pain.

The stands were sold at Lowe's stores nationwide from December 2005 through March 2006 for about $100. Consumers should stop using the recalled hammock stands immediately and return them to any Lowe's store to receive a full refund. For more information, consumers can contact Lowe's toll-free at (866) 259-8170 or visit www.lowes.com.
