Shims Bargain Inc. is recalling approximately 45,000 BabyTown pacifiers due to choking and strangulation hazards. The recalled pacifiers fail to meet federal safety standards because the pacifier shield is too small and could easily enter an infant's mouth. Additionally, the ventilation holes are too small and improperly placed to allow for the removal of the pacifier if it becomes lodged in a child's mouth. The packaging also fails to display the required warning against tying a pacifier around a child's neck, which presents a strangulation hazard.
The recalled pacifiers were sold in 4-packs of assorted colors at dollar stores nationwide from March 2004 through December 2007 for $1. The packaging displays "BabyTown" and model #39864. The products were manufactured in China. No injuries have been reported in connection with these pacifiers.
