Gamewell-FCI is recalling about 700 electronic control boards because software interference may prevent fire alarm signals from reaching command centers.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fire safety product where a defect could prevent alarm signals from being sent, representing a risk of harm even though no injuries or property damage have been reported.

Plain-English summary

Gamewell-FCI is recalling approximately 700 electronic control boards used in fire alarm systems. The affected products are the model ILI-MB-E3 and ILI-S-E3 loop control boards, which are components of the Gamewell-FCI E3 Series fire alarm system. These boards provide signaling line circuits and display information for the system.

The recall is due to a software defect where incoming and outgoing messages to and from the control board can interfere with each other. This interference may prevent the board from sending a message to the command center in the event of a fire. Gamewell-FCI has received one report of failed communications during an electrical short that was not due to a fire. There have been no reports of property damage or injury.

The affected boards were sold by authorized distributors nationwide from October 2005 through September 2006. These distributors resell and install the boards for commercial end users in facilities such as hotels and office buildings. Gamewell-FCI is contacting customers directly to provide a free firmware software upgrade. For more information, consumers can contact Gamewell-FCI at (800) 633-1311 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit their distributor's website at www.gamewell-fci.com.
