Apollo Steel Wide-Body Carts Recalled for Falling Equipment Risk

Apollo is recalling about 960 steel wide-body carts sold by Office Depot because they lack a safety belt, posing a risk of heavy equipment falling on consumers.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the hazard description explicitly mentions the potential for serious injuries and death, but the source states that no incidents or injuries have been reported.

Plain-English summary

Apollo Presentation Products is recalling approximately 960 units of the Apollo® Steel Wide-Body Cart, Item #VWBUL44 (Office Depot Model #177-446). These steel carts, which feature a pyramid design and three shelves, were sold through the Office Depot catalog and website from September 2005 through February 6, 2006, for between $200 and $240. The affected units have a model number tag on the underside of the top shelf reading "SC: 18" and a date code of 07/26/05 or later.

The recall is due to the carts being sold without a safety belt, a component designed to prevent heavy equipment from becoming unstable and falling from the upper shelf. The CPSC notes that equipment falling on nearby consumers can cause serious injuries and death. Apollo is not aware of any incidents involving this cart.

Consumers should stop using these carts immediately. Owners are being sent a free kit that includes a safety belt and the hardware needed for assembly. Consumers should not return the carts to Office Depot stores. For more information, contact Apollo at (800) 777-3750 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.apolloavproducts.com.
