Yamaha Corp. of America is recalling approximately 176 BC-104DR(U) Keyboard Benches sold in the United States. These benches were sold together with the YDP213 Digital Piano between January 2006 and February 2006 at musical instrument retailers and dealers for about $1,000. The recall does not involve the pianos themselves.
The recall is due to a defect where one or more bench bolts may not meet tensile strength specifications. This defect can result in the collapse of the bench while in use, posing a risk of injury. Yamaha has received one report of a bench collapsing in Taiwan, but no injuries were reported.
The affected bench is black with a cushioned seat. White stick-on labels on the underside provide assembly instructions, and the serial number and "Made in China" are stamped on the underside of the seat. The model number appears only on the box within the piano box.
