Tropitone, of Irvine, Calif., is recalling about 950 Impressions Side Chairs, including replacement units recently issued to customers. The chairs are armless and can be used indoors or outdoors. They are available in three seat types (strap, patterned aluminum, and tight seat) and three back styles (boulevard, prism, and vision) in multiple finishes.
The recall is due to a hazard where the weld holding the rear chair leg to the seat can separate from the seat. This separation can cause the chair to become unstable and possibly collapse. Tropitone has received three reports of the chair seat and rear leg separating, but no injuries have been reported.
Tropitone Furniture distributed these chairs primarily to commercial establishments such as hotels, as well as some retailers and distributors, from October 2004 through March 17, 2006. Individuals and commercial establishments with the recalled chairs should stop using them immediately and contact Tropitone for a free replacement chair or a credit.
