The affected models include the TropiKai, Verrazano, Cotillion, Cayman, Colony, and Seychelle. These chairs feature nylon ratchets that control the headrest height, which can break after repeated use.

The defect poses a risk of injury if the headrest collapses while a consumer is adjusting it. Tropitone has received more than 100 reports of headrest collapse resulting in finger injuries, including pinches, lacerations, fractures, separations, and amputations of fingertips. One neck and back injury was also reported.

Consumers should stop using the affected chairs immediately and contact Tropitone at (800) 654-7000, extension 4099, to receive a new chaise lounge chair. Commercial customers should contact their sales representatives. The chairs were sold from 1985 through 1993 for about $300 to $400. Chairs with aluminum ratchets are not involved in this recall.
