Tropitone Furniture Co. of Irvine, Calif., is recalling about 1,440 Echo swivel rocker chairs. The recall is due to a hazard where the base of the chair can crack, which may cause the person seated in the chair to fall.

The affected chairs have oval-shaped arms and were sold in two styles: model number 189930 with cushion seats and model number 199930 with sling fabric seats. Both models were available in various solid colors and print fabrics, with frames in six color finishes: aged pewter, aluminum, chrome, golden bronze, heron blue, and textured ebony.

Tropitone has received five reports of the base cracking and one report of a consumer falling from a chair, but no injuries have been reported. The chairs were sold at outdoor and patio furniture stores nationwide from January 2000 through May 2000 for between $250 and $280. Consumers should immediately stop using the chairs and contact Tropitone Furniture Co. at (800) 654-7000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday to receive a free replacement base.
