Etón E1XM Radios Recalled Due to Battery Fire and Burn Hazard

Etón Corp. is recalling approximately 1,700 E1XM-model AM/FM/SW/XM-ready radios. The recall is due to a defect where the battery can overheat and possibly rupture when the radio is used with the AC adapter. This condition poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
The affected radios have serial numbers ranging from 3,067 through 5,642. The serial number is located underneath the flap on the back of the unit. The radios are silver, measure about 13 inches wide by 7.5 inches high by 2.5 inches deep, and feature the Etón logo on the bottom left-hand corner and the XM radio logo with "e1" in the upper right corner. Etón has received one report of a battery overheating, but no injuries have been reported.
These radios were sold at electronic stores, catalogs, and online retailers from November 2004 through February 2006 for about $500. Consumers should stop using the recalled radios immediately and contact Etón Corp. at (800) 872-2228 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday, or visit www.etoncorp.com for a refund or replacement product.
